Borderline 5th Anniversary Promotion

school-1.gifTo celebrate our 5th Anniversary Borderline has created a special promotion to support the wider Mae Sot community!
Over one hundred thousand Burmese migrants are thought to be living and working on the Thai-Burma border; often under poor conditions for little return.
It’s not just the migrants themselves that are vulnerable, but also their children, who are exposed to insufficient healthcare, clean water, food and the education necessary to not just survive, but to flourish.
Through the determined efforts of grass root Burmese Migrant Groups and other aid agencies many community based Burmese Migrant Schools have been formed; providing underprivileged children with access to basic education.
But even with this support, more is needed to ensure that these schools have the resources required to provide all the children with a strong foundation, with which to build them a brighter future.
This year we would like to play a part in this by supporting two schools projects and need your help to make them happen!

For each customer that spends over 1,000bt on products via the shop or mail order, Borderline will donate a sum of money – the higher the amount, the higher the donated amount!

Over the course of the promotion we hope to raise 15,000 Baht – 100% of which will be donated to providing the building materials required to renovate a school classroom for Thu Kah Han Thar School and also provide 100 School bags for all the children of Shwe Than Zin School.

All customers that take part in our promotion are encouraged to leave their email address so that Borderline can update you with the results of the projects at the end of the promotion.

Exhibition: Our Burma Book

our-burma-book-final-for-w.jpgTo commemorate Borderline’s 5th Anniversary we are proud to announce the opening of a very special exhibition entitled Our Burma Book. The show is the culmination of a unique long lasting partnership between a number of Burmese and Scottish Schools. The partnership allowed children in very different parts of the world to explore each others lives through letters, drawings and discussions; providing a deep understanding of Burma and her people both inside the country and in exile.

As part of the project, each child in each school was invited to select an image of Burma and create an etching from the original picture. The children shared these images with each other and wrote short pieces that reflected their thoughts and feelings on them. The writing was then translated into each language so that a book could be produced as not only a record of the special relationship between the schools, but also so it could be used as a textbook for critical thinking in Scottish and Burmese schools.

To celebrate the opening of the exhibition students from Hle Bee and Say Ta Nar Schools will be giving a special performance.

Bangkok based theatre group Baby Mime will also be making a special guest appearance.

Please join us to enjoy the show at the opening Reception: 6:00pm to 9.00pm on Thursday 16th July. Performances will begin at 7pm.

Complimentary Burmese refreshments will be provided by Borderline Tea Shop.
